The Florida Onsite Wastewater Association (previously the Florida Septic Tank Association) has been active for more than 25 years.

The Association sponsors continuing education classes throughout the year which are required for registered and master septic tank contractors to renew their licenses in Florida. These courses cover topics such as septic system design, diagnosing failures, soils and improved business practices. FOWA was also instrumental in helping the State of Florida Dept. of Health develop the Master Contractor program, which began in 1996.

FOWA maintains a "hands-on" training center, which serves industry professionals in a way that only classroom activities cannot. The site is located in Polk County, near Haines City, and the training center serves as a focal point for FOWA activities.

FOWA Committees are involved in the following areas: Education/Training Center, Conventions, Legislative/Regulatory Review, Membership, Awards, Insurance, Research, and Scholarship. A Steering Committee oversees the budget and general operations of the organization.
